What Benefits Can I Expect?
At the end of the counselling or coaching process our clients say that they can’t believe how much they have gained, and that it usually exceeds their expectations.
They are usually not 100% clear about what they in fact can achieve in life and once the road blocks are removed and they get some direction, they are usually amazed at how their lives start evolving.
The more you put into the process, usually the more you get out of it.
Why Do Some People Choose Not to Get Professional Assistance?
People are often scared of looking at what is inside of them. The fear of the unknown can be a powerful one!
Others believe they can do it on their own and although in some cases this may be true it is quicker and more stable to do it with a trained professional who can offer tools to assist you.
Some also have a belief that only weak people see psychologists, and they should be strong enough to deal with things on their own.
Others believe that only people who are crazy see psychologists, or that counseling is just a load of horseshit.
That is until they have a few sessions. Some also have heard some stories of negative experiences friends have had, so feel wary of experiencing the same thing.
How Long Does it Take to Change?
This depends on the nature of the reason why you want to go for counselling and how much you put into the process.
For some it can be a few sessions to help them get over anxiety about public speaking, for others it can be about long term negative patterns in their lives that go right back to when they were kids.
We have all been emotionally damaged at some point in our lives, and it depends on the extent of the damage, your ability to work hard on overcoming it, and the quality of counselling that really makes the difference.
We find that when people make the first step, and are open to working hard and are able to push through their fears, that it often takes a shorter time than they think.
For others it can take longer than they think as they didn’t realize how much damage was inside of them.
We will often start seeing someone to overcome their blocks to identifying their potential, and then at a later stage, become their coaches to assist them in achieving their goals.
When Will I Start To See Improvements?
Some people feel relieved after the first session just knowing they are not alone and some one is there for them. Improvements are usually seen within the first few weeks. Just understanding more about yourself makes a huge difference at the start, and when people start implementing the insights and doing their homework things can move forward quite rapidly.
For some people, the issues they face can go right back to when they were kids and repairing this type of damage can take a number of months.
When people are seeing incremental changes week by week they seem to feel quite positive about this length of time.
It can take a longer if you have difficulty identifying and expressing emotions. This can be because when growing up you had parents who, whilst having the best of intentions, taught you that opening up and expressing your feelings is a bad idea.
They might have also modelled to you that life is best when everything is familiar and ‘safe’, that it is somehow dangerous to explore new territories and ways of living life.
So therefore being stuck in your comfort zone makes sense, you might be naturally fearing trying new things due to things inside yourself from your background that you were never aware of.
It is easy to say: “this will work for others, I’m different.” You are human and as a result, you are just as capable of reaching your potential as anyone else.
