How Well do You Really Understand Sexually Diversity?

One day workshop
“Best Practice Counselling with Sexual Diversity”

This workshop is run both for organizations as inservice training or for groups of professionals including private practitioners.

Why attend?
This workshop aims to improve your understanding and confidence dealing with GLBTI clients and enable you to attract more people from these client groups.

Even though you may not have had GLBTI clients, the fact is that you will most probably have to deal with these issues at some point.

People who provide counselling to sexually diverse clients often are not aware of many important and unique facets of their lives and underlying psychological issues.   These clients may not tell you everything they need to for fear that you may not understand them or they may feel you are somehow prejudiced, or their sense of shame.

This can lead to them leaving the counselling process early or feel that they have to educate you which can somehow reverse the counselling dynamics.

Your facilitator?
This workshop is facilitated by psychologist Paul Martin, voted as one of Australia’s 25 Most Influential gays and lesbians.  He has specialized in working with sexually diverse clients for over 20 years, writes for GLBT media & is an organizational consultant.

Workshop summary:
It brings together psychological literature, theory and combines it with Paul Martin’s extensive experience in this specialized area.   Theory and best practice are drawn together using case studies and deeper level reflection about the issues.

This highly interactive and engaging workshop has been run in Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane.  Feedback has been outstanding with many participants stating that they gained more from the workshop that they could have imagined.

Topics Covered:

Topics covered include underlying psychological dynamics, language and subcultural norms in these communities, stages of psychosexual development, coming out, internalized homophobia, mental health, and relationships.

Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney workshops were very well received with all participants saying in their feedback that as a result of the workshop they would work more effectively with gay and lesbian clients.
